Artistes receive cultural award

Ten artistes from the district received cultural award from the State Government today. Instituted by the Tamil Nadu government to encourage artistes who perform various traditional arts, the award was presented at the Collectorate by the District Revenue Officer, T. Christu Raj to the artistes.

R. Anbumuthu (drama) from Thudiyalur, N. Chandran (silambam) from Thirumadilanaickenpalayam received the Kalai Madhumani award. C.S. Kumar (nagaswaram) from Pollachi, A. Shanmugam (pambai) from Irugur received the Kalai Nanmani award.

While B.G. Gayathri (bharathanatyam) from Selvapuram and N. Rani (karagam) from Irugur received the Kalai Chudaramani award, M. Ganesh from Kuniyamuthur and T. Anandraj from Chettipalayam, both folk artistes, received the Kalaivalarmani award.

M. Hari and M. Mdhuranthagi received the Kalai Ilamani award for arts and handicrafts respectively.

District Collector Archana Patnaik could not attend the programme as she was out of town.
