The agitation seeking the implementation of the Avanashi-Athikkadavu Ground Water Recharge scheme came to an end today after the government announced administrative sanction for the project. The protest organizers thanked the government for their decision, but added that the agitations will continue until the copy of the Government order reaches them.

With the protests entering its 12th day, at least 70 persons, including women, were on hunger strike at various places in and around Coimbatore, seeking the implementation of the project, which will benefit the districts of Coimbatore, Tirupur, and Erode.

Top leaders of almost all the major political parties had visited the protest venues to extend their support.
