Coimbatore city-based GEM Hospital and Research Centre has joined hands with four Rotary Clubs to launch their free clinic and awareness programme on World Cancer Day. The clinics will spread awareness about the causes, symptoms, diagnoses, and treatment of this killer disease.
The initiative was declared open by Kamlesh V Raheja, District Governor of R.I. District 3201.
A special e-talk on cancer will be telecasted between 10 am and 10.30 am every Sunday. The first of the series was launched at the hospital premises on World Cancer Day. The programme will also serve as a platform for the public to get their doubts about cancer clarified by specialists of the hospital. Queries can be sent through mobile phones, smart TV, and computers. Also, the hospital will organize a free cancer screening camp at its premises on the first Sunday of each month.
Cancer is on the rise all over the world due to lifestyle changes, chemicals, and infections. Cancer has not spared the young population either. A majority of cancers, when detected at an early stage, can be cured. Cancer surgeries have become more effective and less morbid. GEM Hospital also offers treatment for cancer at a concessional price. This hospital assures that regular check-ups for cancer can help in diagnosing and treatment, thereby reducing the burden of the disease.
