The Municipal Corporation conducted an awareness programme through traditional folk arts on ill effects of open defecation and prevention of dengue on Monday. They also highlighted the importance of use of cloth bags instead of polythene and plastic materials.

The programme, jointly organised by the Corporation along with the National Urban Livelihood Mission and Jishnu Institute, was held at Thayammal.

A group of children performed ‘Thappattam’ and a street play through which the social message was conveyed.

“The play not only entertained the people, but also helped them understand what will happen if they do not keep their surroundings clean,” B. Kavitha, in-charge of public health (ward no 96) said.
