Bannari Amman Institute of Technology celebrates 20th Annual Day

Recognitions, awards and special lectures formed the 20th annual day celebrations of Bannari Amman Institute of Technology. Nearly 75 students of the 14 departments were awarded with a gold medal and certificate for their outstanding performance.

Four students were awarded with a silver medal and a certificate for outstanding performance in mathematics. Those who scored centum in Plus-Two exams Maths, Chemistry and Physics were given a certificate and more than 50 students who are now doing their first year of engineering with this institute were awarded. Two students were recognised for bringing laurels to the institution in sports and athletics. A certificate of appreciation was given to them.

Priyanka R. doing her final-year engineering with this institution was awarded Tata Consultancy Services Limited (TCS) Best Student Award. Ranjit Kumar was awarded Vellore Institute of Technology – VIT Best Student Award.

In his special address M.P. Vijayakumar, Trustee, Bannari Amman Institute of Technology said: “There are three important attributes to be a good engineer. They are sound knowledge and knowing how to put this knowledge to use, good communication skills and this includes knowing to speak well, and lastly respect for others. These are what all employers look for.” Dr. Vijayakumar said.

In his address as guest of honour Dr. A Sivathanu Pillai said: “This generation is dedicated to the youth. Young minds these days have the ability to bring in change. You are in the most precious phase of your career. Creativity, hard work, love for your country, dedication and staying focussed, you can reach great heights in your respective careers.” Dr. Pillai said.

Emphasising how young minds could bring in a change, Dr. Pillai cited the example of how a team of youth designed and developed software for a sensor to create accuracy. This he said was created for the missile programme.

In his short yet powerful address D.R. Kaarthikeyan urged the students to become leaders. “Leaders are to their followers what hope is to the hopeless. Mistakes are committed by all, mistakes are allowed. However, the real strength lies in learning from one’s mistakes,” Kaarthikeyan said.
