Basket Ball: ASC beats Income Tax, Indian Railway defeats local team

COIMBATORE: In a closely contested game, ASC, Bengaluru edged past Income Tax, Delhi 68-64 in the 53rd All India Basketball Championship for men for Nachimuthu Gounder cup played here on Monday.

Despite taking early leads in the first three quarters of the game from 21-9, 36-24 and 56-45, ASC had to pull their socks in the last quarters against surging Taxmen, who almost caught up with the rivals. However, in a nail biting finish, ASC defeated Income Tax by a margin of four points 68-64.

For Bengaluru Jeethandar Singh scored 19, Issac T. Thomas 17, while for the losers Yudhveer scored 23 and Rachit 14. In the second match for men, Indian Railway defeated Coimbatore District Basketball Association (CDBA) 92-47.

David Boon and Rishab scored 12 points each for the winners, while Vinith Kumar potted 21 points for the local team, In the women’s match for CRI Pumps trophy, Tamil Nadu Juniors beat Sports Hostels 65-26 in a one-sided game.

Top scorers for the winners are K.Sathya 20, A. Ashmitha 11, while Ranjitha 13 for the losers.
