Author of `Intangled from Within’ VG Jagadeesh was casually warm and effusive over the phone. “Please don’t call me sir, call me Jaggu,” was what he had to say when Covai Post contacted him.
What followed was an easy conversation leading him to opening up about his book, his social consciousness, his unusual blog name- Kirukkan. On the unique name, his reply was: “The blog is not specific. Sometimes I write about cinema, sometimes about books or my own thoughts.” Since it is dabble in all thoughts, he calls himself a ‘Kirukkan’.
A web design supervisor in Madura Travel Service (P) Ltd, Jagadeesh got his first taste of outreach through Skype.
A client of his who had dealt with him professionally learnt of his Tamil blog and sought to learn the language from him. “This opportunity came like a rainfall to me. It was natural, not planned” he said, though about his book he said `was no mere coincidence’. It was meant to help people like him.
Jagadeesh has the ability to see a silver lining in his work. His tagline, Dr Kalam’s rousing words, ‘Not Disability, it’s ability with difference’ seems to be his motto. This tetraplegic author views this ability as a comfort to his body saying it gave him more time and concentration to focus on his research and technical online ventures.
Yet, there is no personal motivation. He claims that writing comes naturally to him. “It is one part of my creativity. I think about things and just write about them.”
He confides he is a fan of author Sujatha. “Fiction is what motivated me to write. Like Sujatha’s book, I would like people to read my books and relate to it.”
His book is all about his Internet experiences, how he grabbed opportunities to work online, how one can connect with people through networking, his thoughts and so much more. He believes it should provide readers with an understanding into the consciousness of a differently abled person.
“The publisher, the proof-reader and the one who designed the layout of the book are all differently abled people.
We wanted to bring out every part of their development. Their mobility, their knowledge was highlighted. I wanted to focus on their empowerment through the idea of this book,” says Jagadeeshan.
As a thought-provoking idea, he elaborates that the book would enable a person to think that they could hire differently abled people in their businesses. “I want to shape such an idea in people through my work… In a nutshell, my book is very subtle and believes in social outreach.”
V G Jagadeesh’s book ‘Intangled from Within’ has hit the shelves of the bookstores near you. Read to get a unique perspective into a differently- abled person’s life.
