Bharathiar varsity submits blue print to MHRD to elevate it as Global University

In continuation towards excellence in higher education, Bharathiar University has submitted a blue print for the next 15 years, to Ministry of Human Resources Development, to elevate it as a Global University.

The proposal for Institution of Eminence (IOE) focuses on values, culture and practices to enhance health, environment, energy and social development and a holistic approach through education and research has been emphasized to transform the society, keeping sustainability as a priority.

Among the second generation State Universities established by Tamil Nadu Government in 1982, Bharathiar University has grown in leaps and bounds and has achieved higher status in National ranking by MHRD.

The University with NIRF ranking 14 in 2016 and 28 in 2017 and top among the State Arts and Science Universities in Tamil Nadu in both 2016 and 2017 respectively has become eligible to apply for IOE and proposed for funding worth of Rs.1,000 crores for the next five years, to attain the status.

Stating that the university has projected to achieve academic growth by providing new advanced degree courses and integrated courses under various streams to the existing academic curriculum, a release said that these courses are expected to attract students from overseas, while at the same time will be pivotal for Indian students to expand their knowledge and make them capable to compete at global platform.

World class infrastructure and research laboratories will be established to support measures to achieve the objective and innovative ideas and cutting edge research will be given high priority. Further, under IOE, University has autonomy to recruit foreign faculty members and admit foreign students.

One of the objectives under IOE is to recruit and admit one-third of faculty members and students from foreign countries to have truly a world class atmosphere in the campus.
