Tension prevailed for a while in the old bus stand area in Thanjavur toady as activists of district unit of Hindu Maha Sabha attempted to besiege the local branch of Malabar Gold Jewellery shop protesting against its management for celebrating Pakistan’s Independence Day.

Led by the outfit’s district president Karthik Rao, a group of activists came in a procession, holding Indian flag, raising slogans and moved towards the showroom in a bid to besiege it and present the Indian flag. However, police led by Thanjavur town DSP Elangovan arrested all of them before they reached the shop.

Karthik Rao said that it was highly condemnable that the shop management celebrated Pakistan’s Independence Day while doing business in India. “ Let them go there and do their business. Then, they are free to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day,” Karthik Rao said.
