Bid to burn Raja’s effigy: DMK workers arrested

COIMBATORE: DMK MLA N. Karthik was among 100 party workers who were arrested here for burning the effigies of BJP national Secretary H Raja for his ‘indecent’ remarks against DMK President M Karunanidhi on his twitter page.

Raja in his twitter has reportedly made some indecent remarks about Karunanidhi, without naming him, as a reaction to the incident, where Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit tapped the cheek of a woman journalist.

Ired over the remarks, about 70 party workers led by Karthik, Singanallur MLA, who is also Party South Urban secretary, staged a protest demonstration and burnt Raja’s effigy.

There was pull and push between police and DMK workers, as police tried to snatch the effigy. Similarly, some 30 party workers, led by North Urban District organisor N. Muthusamy were arrested for attempting to burn an effigy, police said.
