Members of the Arundhadhiyar Makkal Viduthalai Iyakkam staged a blindfold demonstration in the District Collectorate demanding the clearance in a complicated patta land in Molappalayam Panchayat here on Monday.

As many as 10 members including children came to petition the Collector Archana Patnaik with their eyes blindfolded alleging that the patta order that was given to R. Sonnan who was residing at the area for 40 years was declared invalid.

They said that Sonnan’s family had been living on the land since his demise; the patta that was given to them by the Tahsildar office in the year 1996 was declared as not valid by the municipality officials.

Kovai Maniyarasu, the Coordinator of the Association, said that the sons of Sonnan, Arumugam and Ammavasai had been paying house tax for the patta land and added even Sonnan’s house was demolished by the officials.

“Most of other beneficiaries in the area are not affected and only Sonnan’s family is suffering as the officials claim that the house is built on a path on which a road is soon to be laid,” he said.

He further added that the officials also claimed that only a one and a half cent belonged to Sonnan and the rest belonged to the Government.

“The officials have promised to find a solution for the problem by October 5,’ he added
