28-year-old V Anandraj, a civil engineer at a private construction company, met with an accident near Dharapuram in Tirupur district on January 16, when he was heading to his native village of Aaiyakudi near Palani on a two wheeler.

He was taken to the Dharapuram Government Hospital wherefirst aid was given to him. He was then rushed to the Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH) in a critical condition. Anandraj did not respond to treatment and was pronounced brain-dead on January 18.

Anandraj’s father, Vijayaraghavan, came forward to donate his organs. A team of doctors from the Coimbatore Government Hospital and KMCH retrieved the kidneys, liver, and skin. The liver and one kidney were transplanted at KMCH. The other kidney was sent to Salem Gobi Hospital. The skin was sent to Ganga Hospital in Coimbatore.
