Makkal DMDK, the breakaway faction from the Vijayakanth-led DMDK, led by V.C. Chandrakumar, has announced that it will merge with the DMK.

Two of the prominent leaders of the breakaway group, S.R. Parthiban and C.H. Sekar – are currently holding talks with DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin, on how to carry on with the merger. All three leaders, V.C. Chandrakumar, S.R. Parthiban, and C.H. Sekar, are former MLAs of the DMDK.

Trouble began in the DMDK soon after it announced its intentions to join the PWF alliance during the recently concluded state assembly elections. Many in the party were hoping for an alliance with the DMK. Vijayakanth retaliated by sacking the major voices of dissent from the party.

The dismissed members, all influential leaders in their constituencies, formed the Makkal DMDK.
