A pall of gloom descended on Jyothi Ambal Nagar in Chittlapakkam in the outskirts of Chennai on Tuesday as the mortal remains of Raghavendran Ganesan, who died in terror attack in Brussels, was brought back to his residence.
Most of the relatives and friends of Raghavendran were in tears when the body was taken into the house. A huge crowd had gathered ahead of the arrival of techie’s body. Raghavendran was travelling on the Metro train where a bomb went off on March 22 as part of terror attacks in Brussels, the capital of Belgium.
Ganesan and Annapoorani, parents of the deceased, were overcome with emotion as they walked straight into the apartment along with their son’s body. Raghavendran’s wife Vaishali was also there to attend the last rites of her husband.
Earlier, the body of Raghavendran was brought from Amsterdam to Abu Dhabi from where it was brought to Chennai by a private airliner.
Raghavendran’s brother Chandrasekar also accompanied the body from Amsterdam along with his parents. State Protocol Officer Kasinathan, police and other officials from Infosys received the body and consoled the bereaved parents.
After completing the formalities, the body was handed over to the parents. The last rites were expected to be conducted in the late evening.
“It was unfortunate and a big shock for us”, Raghavendran’s cousin Sridhar said.
Raghavendran was selected for Infosys in a campus interview. He got trained in Bengaluru and was posted in Brussels for a project.
Married to Vaishali, Raghavendra was in Chennai in February this year at his in-laws place, for the delivery of their first child.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, DMK President M. Karunanidhi and other political party leaders have condoled the death of Raghavendra.
