Burglars break open lock; steal gold

Thanjavur: Burglars entered the locked house of a schoolteacher in Thanjavur yesterday evening and decamped with 12 sovereigns of jewels kept in her bureau.

Police said, the burglars gained entry into her house after breaking open the lock of the door.

Thenmozhi, 45, resident of Sarada Nagar on the Medical College Road in Thanjavur, and her husband Sridhar, 50, locked their house and went to the temple yesterday evening. When they returned home at 10.30 pm, they were shocked to find their lock broken open and 12 sovereigns of jewels kept in the bureau stolen.

Based on her complaint, Thanjavur Medical College police have registered a case and further investigation is on.

Thenmozhi is a teacher in a private higher secondary school for girls in Thanjavur, while her husband Sridhar is a software engineer working abroad, police said.
