Call taxi, mini cab drivers arrested

Some 130 call taxi and mini cab drivers were arrested on Wednesday for attempting to stage a dharna at the RTO premises in protest against the new service rules.

According to police, the drivers numbering over 150 squatted in middle of Balasundaram Road in the city and raised slogans against the new rule which said that that they could drive only for eight hours. The driving licences will be cancelled if those found violating the rules, the rules said.

Police who rushed to spot managed to convince and disperse the agitators. However, a group went inside the RTO office and attempted to stage a dharna were arrested.
