Dejected over continued treatment for colon cancer, a 56-year old man committed suicide by slitting his throat in the Government Hospital here, where he was being treated.

According to police, Selvan, hailing from Sathyamangalam in Erode district, was admitted to the Government Hospital on August 19, for colon cancer and had been undergoing treatment since then. Selvan felt that there was no progress in his health condition and slit his throat with a blade in the bed two days ago, they added.

His relatives alerted the doctors, who gave him emergency treatment. However, he died last night without responding to the treatment, police said.
