A 34-year-old woman from the city set a world record by performing yoga for 57 hours continuously.

K.P. Ranjana, an advocate by profession and a Zenskar martial art student hailing from Kancheepuram, started performing yoga on Sunday at 9 a.m, and wound up at 6 p.m. at the University Senate Hall today.

Ranjana, also a yoga instructor, performed 500 asanas and repeated them throughout. She took five minutes break every one hour, during which time she consumed just water and fruits.

“It was not at all tiring. I thoroughly enjoyed,” Ranjana said at the end of her fete. She is confident of breaking her own record very soon. “I want to repeat it,” she added.

Ramesh Rishi of Mahamaharishi Foundation Charitable Trust Mahayogam, the organiser of the event said Ranjana had broken the record set by Uttam Muktan of Nepal who performed yoga for 50 hours and 15 minutes continuously in 2015. A longest yoga marathon by a female was achieved by Yasmin Fudakowska-Gow of Canada, who performed for 32 hours in 2010.

Recently, the foundation organised an event in which 43 people performed yoga for 41 hours continuously at the same venue and entered the Guinness Book of Records.
