City to host 17th All India Inter University Athletics meet

The four-day 17th All India Inter University Athletics Championship will be held at Nehru Stadium in the city from 11 Jan, 2016. The event will be organised by Anna University.
Around 150 universities and 4,000 athletes from various parts of the country are expected to participate in the meet.
S P Velumani, TN Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural Development and Implementation of Special Programmes, chief guest for the ceremony, will inaugurate the event at 3 pm on 11 Jan. The Guest of Honour would be K P Anbalagan, TN Minister of Higher Education.
Prof. Dr S Sundarajan, Secretary, Anna University Sports Board, said, “Twenty-two women’s athletic events and 22 men’s athletic events will be conducted. All facilities for the athletes are taken care of. About 180 official sports volunteers will be part of the organising team.”
The inaugural function will be attended by official dignitaries like Dr. R Rajendrakumar, IAS, Principal Secretary for Youth Welfare, T N Hariharan, IAS, District Collector, Coimbatore, Corporation Commissioner K Vijaykarthikeyan and W I Devaram, IPS, Director General of Police (retd) for Tamil Nadu.
