In a temple that is dedicated to Lord Krishna in R.S. Puram, Akshaya Tritya is celebrated in a grand manner. This is the 45th year (without a break) that Akshaya Tritya is celebrated at the Sri Priya Kunj. Coincidently, this day also marks the anniversary of this temple.

On this day, devotees prepare snacks, savouries, food items and desserts. Special prayers and pujas are performed on this day. Today, Akshaya Tritya celebrations are expected to begin early in the evening at this temple. Celebrations will include chanting of hymns and what is offered to God will be served to devotees as Prasad.

“Every year we have several Jains, Marwadis, Sindhis, Punjabis and South Indians who participate in the celebrations. This year too we are expecting hundreds of people to attend and seek blessings,” Krishna Tulsidas Samanth, Sri Priya Kunj, said.

It is believed that it was on the day of Akshaya Tritya, Veda Vyas and Lord Ganesha began to write Mahabharata.

When translated from Sanskrit, the word Akshaya means never diminishing. For the Jain and Hindu community Akshaya Tritya is regarded as an auspicious day. It is believed that this day brings good luck, peace and prosperity. Several Jains and Hindus begin new ventures on this auspicious day.
