The Coimbatore Corporation Contractors Welfare Association, in its annual general body meeting for the year 2024-2025, has formally requested a 10% profit addition on the schedule rate. The annual general body meeting of the Association for the year 2024-2025 was convened at Ratna Residency Hotel on Variety Hall Road, Coimbatore. The meeting saw the participation of Union President Udayakumar, Secretary KCP Chandra Prakash,Treasurer Ammashaiyappan,Deputy Secretary Michael, and several other members.

Retired Corporation Engineers Lakshmanan, Prabhakaran, and Kalavathi Isaac were honored during the event. In celebration of Engineer’s Day, the association will distribute 1,000 saplings to residents of Coimbatore at free of cost and provide free dental and eye examinations, along with spectacles, to students in Corporation schools.

The association extended their gratitude to the Commissioner for his dedication in releasing EMD, FSD funds and withholding amounts that have been outstanding for over five years to contractors in the Municipal Accounts Division.

The association emphasized the importance of prefixed and tendered advance work within the corporation and called for the withdrawal or cancellation of tenders submitted in violation of these norms. A complaint regarding this issue will be lodged with the Corporation Commissioner.

Highlighting financial concerns, the association pointed out that over a year has passed since the completion of various contract projects, yet several crores worth of bills remain unpaid. These bills should be settled based on a seniority list. Additionally, tenders should align with budget allocations, as tenders exceeding the budget have led to severe financial crises.

The association proposed that, similar to the Central Public Works Department and National Highways Authority, contractors should prepare a fixed rate including a 10% profit margin. Despite digital signatures and proper submission of tender applications, many are rejected due to the absence of digital signatures. This issue will also be formally addressed.

Looking ahead, the association plans to organize various sports competitions to promote athletic activities in corporation schools and improve the standard of sports. Additionally, training for members will be provided through the Career Development Study Committee.
