A team of doctors at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital, led by paediatric cardiologist Dr. Deva Prasath, successfully performed a complex open heart surgery on a four-month-old baby under the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s insurance scheme for free of cost. The patient was discharged from this hospital seven days after the surgery.

The child was born with congenital Ectodermic dysplasia and a cardiac anomaly. The doctor diagnosed the cardiac malformation after performing a detailed Echocardiogram. The medical condition was first stabilized. Although the risks were high, the doctors decided that the child needed an early open heart surgery to correct the defect as the symptoms were worsening. After detailed discussion and adequate counselling, the parents agreed to this high risk procedure.

The paediatric-cardiac surgery team included paediatric cardiologist Dr. Deva Prasath, consultant paediatric cardiac surgeon Dr. Vijay Sadasivam, Dr. Arunkumar, Dr. Sujith, and cardiac anaesthetist Dr. Narendera Menon. The surgery was successful and the child’s condition was stable. A release from this hospital stated that the child was ready to be discharged seven days after the surgery.

The child underwent surgery under the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister insurance scheme, free of cost. Sri Ramakrishna Hospital paediatric cardiac surgical team routinely performs complex cardiac surgeries. Patients who cannot afford surgeries can take advantage of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister insurance scheme at the hospital.

Patients who are not covered under the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister insurance scheme can get surgeries done free of cost by assistance from funds provided by Rotary Club of Saicity. Under this scheme, with funding from Rotary Club of Saicity, the hospital has performed 690 surgeries on children who cannot afford the same.
