The Coimbatore Corporation officials are soon to conduct an open meeting with all the line Departments and public, along with District Collector Archana Patnaik on September 30 to prepare the Smart City Plan.
Briefing reporters here, Corporation Commissioner, K. Vijayakarthikeyan said that the Corporation was expecting creative suggestions and proposals from officials and public.

“Our corporation has successfully passed the first stage in which the cities are shortlisted based on its achievements in JNNURM (Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission); employee management and other facilities. Now we are in the Smart City Challenge stage in which the selected cities are to submit a creative plan to the Central Government in three months to progress to the next level,” he added.

Vijayakarthikeyan also said that so as to get through the level, the Corporation should submit a report containing Pan City Solution, Area Based Development. “Pan City Solution deals with overall creative development of the city and Area Based Development is in which we address area level problems and make necessary developments,” he informed.

He further added that no fixed pattern was given by the Centre and every project was left to the creativity of the Corporation.

“A team of coordinators and consultants have been appointed by the State, including the City’s Chief Engineer, Assistant Engineer and Assistant Executive Engineers. They would be monitoring the plan under the Corporation,” he added.

“In order to make the plan more feasible, we need suggestions from the public on areas that need development and immediate consideration. We invite all those who are interested to attend the meeting on Wednesday at the Collectorate. We are also planning to conduct competitions for college and school students under “My City: My Dream” scheme introduced by the Central Government,” Vijayakarthikeyan said.
The Commissioner also said people could post suggestions in the official Facebook Page (Smartcity Coimbatore) and on the e-governance portal. “We have also planned to position suggestion boxes in all the zonal offices and the final report would be submitted by the end of December,” he said
