Travelling requires a lot of planning and it will be even more extensive if a child is travelling. Packing the baby’s needs especially food, diapers, medicines… the list is endless.

But this was the case till yesterday. Thanks to a journalist, the Railway Minister, Suresh Prabhu, announced in the Rail Budget that special stalls would be set up in stations selling baby requirements – lactogen, feeding bottles, hot water and milk.

The journalist, Satyendra Kumar Yadav, tweeted to the Minister asking for milk for his baby when he was on a train. Not only the minister arranged for milk that was promptly delivered to the child in the next station, the minister announced his plans for setting up the ‘Janani Sewa Stalls’ in all major stations.

Such stalls were inaugurated today as pilot project. They are located within the vegetarian refreshment rooms. Stations including Salem, Coimbatore, Erode and Karur are a few among the list of stations have been selected by the Southern Railways.

The Ministry has also planned to sell snacks such as burgers for children between the age group of 5 and 12 based on demand.

This is not the first time the Minister had responded immediately to the common man’s requests. Earlier he had directed the authorities to provide food to students from Dehradun School when their train was delayed due to heavy fog. He had also helped a senior citizen in getting a stretcher after she tweeted him.
