Collector inaugurates handloom expo

Representatives from 38 handloom weavers’ cooperative societies participated in the Handloom Exhibition which was inaugurated at Loomworld in Saibaba Colony here on Wednesday.

Inaugurating the exhibition, District Collector Archana Patnaik said that variety of cotton dresses and sarees including Covai Kora Cotton, and other silk sarees would be made available at the expo at a 30 percent subsidy.

She further added that the previous expo which had 22 stalls generated a revenue of 96.24 lakhs. “We expect around 90 lakhs this time around in the 18 stalls that is present,” she said.

She called for the public to make use of the opportunity and promote handloom products.
