The district administration, with the help of police, stopped the marriage of a minor girl to be solemnised today on the outskirts of Coimbatore.

Based on a petition that a minor girl is being married off, District Collector Archana Patnaik yesterday directed the police to check the issue. Accordingly, senior officials from Perur All Women Police Station rushed to K.G. Chavadi late in the evening. Enquiries revealed that the girl was 17 years old and was still a minor.

The officials spoke to the parents of the bride and the bridegroom, and managed to convince them against the marriage of the minor girl. They also got in writing the assurance from both of them and stopped the marriage of the minor girl.
