Collector’s help sought to end usury

The Social Awareness Movement today sought the intervention of the district administration to rein in people who were lending money at exorbitant interest rates in the district.
In a petition the Collector, Archana Patnaik, the movement claimed many people took their own lives in areas like Vadavalli, Perianaickenpalayam, Thudiyalur adn Mettupalayam, as they were not able to repay the loans.
Despite complaints, police were not taking any action against the lenders, they said.
