College students rally on Women’s Day

Students from various colleges participated in the rallies held to celebrate International Women’s Day in Coimbatore here on Tuesday.
As many as 400 students from the PPG Group of Institutions and Ashwin Cancer Centre rallied from Women’s Polytechnic College till V.O.C Park to spread awareness of breast cancers that largely affect women.

Dr L.P.Thangavelu, Head of PPG institutions said that India still lacks awareness about special treatments for cancers that affect women and added that this scenario should change.

“Women should undergo certain tests when they attain 35 years so as to avoid cancer in the future,” he added.
Students who participated in the rally also distributed handouts in public places including Gandhipuram bus terminus and the surrounding.

Meanwhile, students of the Karunya University also participated in an awareness rally on women’s rights which was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner of Police Nisha Parthiban
