The Coimbatore Smart Cities Company Limited, a special vehicle formed to implement the scheme, held its first meeting today to discuss the course along which the Smart City plan can be taken.

Chaired by the G. Prakash, the Commissioner of Municipal Administration, the team also discussed on filling up the required vacancies in the administrative sector so that the activities could be carried out easily. The officials were informed about the administrative structure of the company and the duties of the board members.

According to a higher official from the Corporation, the minutes of the meeting are to be sent to New Delhi, after which the Rs. 196 crore fund could be sanctioned by the central government. The state government would further sanction a fund of Rs. 200 crores to implement the project. While other cities have finished these proceedings, this is the first meeting to be held in Coimbatore by the company. But Coimbatore can draw solace from the fact that it is ahead of Chennai in conducting the meeting.

The scheme holds key developments like linking of lakes, bringing the Corporation under CCTV surveillance, Wi-Fi facilities, efficient use of natural energy and other amenities.

Corporation Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan and other corporation officials also participated in the meeting.
