Kochi: Rape accused Congress legislator M Vincent was denied bail by the district Sessions Court on Monday.

The Court ruling came after recording an incamera statement of the victim.

Police arrested Vincent on July 22 on the basis of a complaint of a housewife that he had raped her twice.

“A woman accusing an MLA of raping her is a matter of concern. The supporters of Vincent had attacked the woman for making complaint against the legislator. This cannot be ignored. If released at this stage he can influence the witnesses and can be a threat to the victim.” These were the argument put forward by the prosecution.

The court said that the prosecution’s stand cannot be overlooked. Earlier, a lower Court had rejected the bail of Vincent.
