Members of the Tamil Nadu Congress Tozhilalar Union (TCTU), the labour wing of Congress, today distributed handbills at major petrol bunks, containing information on the “real economics of crude oil and petrol prices” in India.

The state TCTU president, N. Nanjappan said that despite the fact that the prices of crude oil had hit rockbottom all over the world, the “anti-people” NDA government, led by Narendra Modi, was increasing the excise duty, without passing on the benefits to the consumers. He added that instead, it has added Rs.1.48 lakh crores to the exchequer.

He also pointed out that Manmohan Singh had granted a subsidy of Rs.2.34 lakh crores to the oil sector, despite the crude oil prices touching its peak.
