Unable to confront the public and members of the Kuruchikulam Pathukappu Iyakkam (Save Kuruchi Wetland Association), a truck driver took back the construction debris he dumped on the bunds of the Kuruchi wetland here on Friday.

The incident occurred when the public and members of the organisation saw a truck driver dumping debris waste around 11.30 am. They reportedly stood up against his dumping and questioned him.

“We called the officials in charge to check on the issue and since no one responded, we warned the driver and let him go,” said R Manikandan, joint secretary of the organisation. He further added that the driver was asked to take back the debris and unload at it at a dump yard nearby.

“This is a regular scenario with most lakes becoming a dumping ground for such debris and poultry waste,” he alleged.

When contacted, a senior official from the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation claimed that the corporation was arranging a special place for dumping of debris in Ukkadam.
