Corpn Dy. Commissioner urges shopkeepers to say no to plastics

Corporation Deputy Commissioner P. Gandhimathi today visited various wards of the civic body and took stock of the mosquito breeding control measures, garbage disposal and maintenance of sanitary complexes in the civic body limits.

Accompanied by town welfare officer M.K Santhoshkumar, the Deputy commissioner also inspected many shops and business establishments in Kovilmedu area in Thadagam Road. She urged the shopkeepers not to use plastic bags and instead use the ones made of cloth.

Speaking to The Covai Post, Gandhimathi said, “We are working towards making the city a plastic free zone. We have been educating the public and shop keepers to say no to plastics. A meeting was held recently, with the stakeholders to drive home the message and seek their active support in the civic body’s effort to ban plastics.”

Gandhimathi also inspected the source segregation of solid waste at Sakthi Road (ward 52) in Gandhipuram.
