Corporation seized 213 kg plastic products; Rs 4,540 fine slapped

Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation seized 213 kg plastic products below the 50 microns across all zones and imposed fines worth Rs 4,540 on shop owners.

Commissioner Dr K. Vijayakarthikeyan ordered the officials to raid various places in the city and confiscate plastic products below 50 microns which had been banned from May 1. The raids were from August 5 to 11.

It was a total 407 shops raided and owners were advised to use eco-friendly bags.

The Commissioner sought the co-operation of the public, shop owners and businesses and asked officials to continue the raids.
