With the Regional Meteorological Department predicting the start of the northeast monsoon today and rain lashing down in most places in Tamil Nadu, the Coimbatore Corporation has started preparations in full swing to combat flood scenarios here.
In a release, Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner K Vijayakarthikeyan said that flood control material, including sand sacks have been made ready. Teams connected through satellite phones have also been formed.
“We have also deployed special teams to immediately clear water in case of stagnation in vulnerable areas and areas where people gather in large numbers,” he said in a release. He added that officials have also been advised to keep water tanks clean and check the chlorine levels in drinking water.
“Prevention, rescue, evacuation and relief teams equipped to tackle floods have been formed,” Vijayakarthikeyan added.
