Councillors stage sit-in protest at Corporation office

Four councillors of the opposition party, the DMK councillors, staged a sit-in protest at the City Corporation’s North Zone office today, alleging that the corporation failed to provide basic amenities in their wards.
K. Jothi Basu (Ward No. 43) and P.V. Subramanian (Ward No. 47) of the DMK squatted on the premises and alleged that the corporation failed to provide proper drinking water to their wards and also not maintaining the street lights, despite complaints.
Soon, they were joined by two more party councillors, J. Mohan Ranganathan (Ward No. 33) and B. Ragupathi (Ward No. 36) joined the duo,
The councillors claimed that the people of their wards were facing acute drinking water shortage and complaints fell on deaf ears. In some other areas, the street lights were not properly maintained and, for the last three months, the contractors simply ignored all the complaints. The people complained that they were supplied drinking water once in every eight days, whereas those in the nearby wards were getting water once in four days.
Assistant Commissioner of the North Zone, Saravanan directed the contractor to rectify the fault immediately and assured the councillors to solve their problems in a few days.
