The district CPI-M today appealed to the state government and concerned district administration to immediately intervene and find a solution to the three major agitations that are currently going on in Coimbatore and its nearby districts for the last few days.

In a resolution adopted at the district committee meeting, the party urged the state government to take immediate steps to implement the much-delayed Avanashi-Athikkadavu Ground Water Recharge Scheme for the benefit of three districts. 24 people have been fasting for eight days now demanding the implementation of the scheme – 10 in Annur, and 14 in Tirupur district.

In another resolution, the party extended support to the ongoing indefinite strike by the government employees seeking to implement their 20-point charter of demands.

In yet another resolution, the party appealed the government to find an amicable solution to the ongoing indefinite strike by the power loom job unit owners for the past 18 days, seeking wages as agreed by textile manufacturers in 2014. With two rounds of talks having failed, the party requested that the government intervene and end the deadlock.

The meeting was attended by CPI-M central committee member P. Sampath; former MP, P.R. Nataragan; and district committee secretary, V. Ramamurthy, among others.
