District Collector Archana Patnaik and Coimbatore City Corporation Commissioner Dr. K. Vijay Karthikeyan recently inaugurated a creche here that would take care of children of those who are in the police department.
Top officials in the police department felt the need for a creche while the personnel were at work. “Some personnel felt uncomfortable leaving their children alone at home while on duty. Thus came the idea to begin the exclusive creche. The kids are safe here,” said sub-inspector R. Ramakrishnan.
The creche, on Balasundaram Road, is open from 7.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on all days except Sundays. “The little ones start walking in from 8 a.m. We keep them occupied through various board games and outdoor activities,” a staff said.
The kids are served lunch, milk and healthy bites in the evenings. Currently 40 children are under the care of three staff. The crèche facility is available free of cost for the police personnel.
