Death sentence for rapist

The Mahila Court here today awarded death sentence to a 30-year old man for murdering a 24-year-old woman two years ago in Karamadai, on the outskirts.

The prosecution case was that the man, Mahesh, a construction worker from Tenkasi in Tirunelveli district, followed Ramya, a teacher in a private college in Kinathukadavu, when she was returning home in Karamadai on November 30, 2014. He trespassed into her house and after hitting Ramya and her mother with a wooden log, Mahesh removed the gold ornaments and raped Ramya, who died some time later.

Investigation led to the arrest of Mahesh in January and the case was going on in the Mahila court, which convicted him yesterday and reserved the judgment for today.

Mahesh was awarded capital punishment for the murder, a life sentence for rape, six year imprisonment for trespass and Rs. 25,000 fine.
