Dejected lover stabs girl with bottle

Angered over having his love spurned, a youth stabbed a post graduate girl student, with a bottle near Bharathiar University here on Wednesday.
Vemburaj, 28, followed the girl, Kanakalakshmi, 21, while she was near the varsity and got into an argument asking why she had spurned his love, police said. As Kanakalakshmi repeatedly asked him to move out of the way, he took a bottle lying on the road and stabbed on her neck, before escaping. Passersby took the girl to a private hospital, where she is recovering.
On receiving a complaint from Kanakalakshmi yesterday, police arrested Vemburaj and produced him before a court and remanded him to custody, police said.
The preliminary inquiry revealed they became friends via Facebook and the youth started making expressions of love, which was rejected by the girl.
