Raising slogans against both the State and Central government, in support of their demands, the farmers wanted them to take steps to get the arrears to the tune of rs.2,000 crore from private sugar factories.

They also demaned increase in the procurement prices of sugarcane from the present rs.2,000 to rs.4,000 per tonne and the milk prices. The State should immediately clear the pending applications from the farmers seeking electricity connections, association president Ilangovan said.

Turning to Central government, they wanted it to immediately constitute the Cauvery Management Board and also to take steps to waive loans from the nationalised banks taken by farmers.

As they marched towards the office, cautioning to intensify the agitation if the Governments failed to take action, police arrested nearly 50 of them.
