Demo seeking rail services to Southern districts

Demanding rail service to Southern districts of the State on the newly-laid Pollachi Broad guage, workers of various political parties and social organisations on Monday staged a demonstration by lying down on the railway track near Pollachi.
The activists belonging to all political parties, barring AIADMK and BJP, lied across the track with mat and pillow and raised slogans against the Railways for neglecting the interest of Southern Districts Led by Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhagam General Secretary, K Ramakrishnan, the workers belonging to DMK, Congress, VCK, MDMK, CPIM and PMK, particiapted in the demonstration.
The agitators also wanted to bring Kinathukadavu and Pollachi stations under Salem Division, which were at present in Palakkad division.
Police who arrived at the scene, arrested nearly 90 activists.
