Coimbatore : With several Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) workers being arrested late last night after attack by AIADMK cadres, the party has decided to stage a protest demonstration here on May 21.

Nearly 50 AMMK workers were arrested for staging picketing after being attacked by AIADMK workers attacked AMMK workers, returning after a meeting, near Vadavalli in the city.

More than 10 cars belonging to AMMK workers, including that of former MLA ‘Challenger’ Durai, were damaged and several persons injured in the clash, police said. According to AMMK sources, AIADMK workers, who opposed the conducting of the meeting at a marriage hall, attacked them without any provocation.

To protest against the attack, AMMK workers staged a picketing by squatting on Vadavalli-Thondamuthur Road, even as over 150 AIADMK workers attacked them, leaving many injured. However, police arrested some 50 AMMK workers with no valid reason, they said.

AMMK has decided to stage a protest demonstration on May 21, in which the party leader T T V Dhinakaran will participate.
