Distinguished alumnus award to Amrita University Dean

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mumbai has conferred the Distinguished Alumnus Award on Dr. Shantikumar V. Nair, the Dean of Research and Director of Amrita Centre for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine at Amrita University, Coimbatore.

The award was given in recognition of Nair’s contribution as an outstanding academic and researcher in the field of nanoscience and molecular medicine. According to the university press release, he is widely known for his innovations in tissue-engineered products, nano-medicines, energy conversion and storage devices.

Nair received his B. Tech degree in Metallurgical Engineering from IIT Mumbai in 1976, and went on to earn MS and PhD degrees in Materials Science and Engineering from Columbia University, USA. He joined the Amrita University in 2006 where he currently serves as the Dean of Research.

The award was presented to Nair at a function by Sandip Trivedi, Director of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research Director in Mumbai.
