In order to ensure 100 percent polling in the district, the district administration has arranged various awareness drives in Coimbatore city on Sunday.

Students of the Avinashilingam University staged street plays on DB Road early on Sunday, creating awareness about the importance of voting. The students also performed other cultural programmes like dance and drama. Students from various colleges also performed a play at a private shopping complex on Avinashi Road, earlier today.

Children played videogames that were available on the Election Commission of India website. Signatures campaigns were held in the vicinity.

Participating in the event, District Collector and District Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik said that the district administration is concentrating on constituencies where low percentage of votes was recorded in the previous elections.

“We are conducting more awareness drives in these areas,” she said.

Advising people to find out the status of their voter IDs via text messages, she asked prospective voters to send a text message to 1950 to check if their names were on the voter list.
