Gandhiya Makkal Iyakkam is all set to contest in 25 constituencies in the upcoming 2016 assembly elections. This was confirmed by Tamilaruvi Maniyan, the party’s founder, on Friday. Three of these 25 seats are in the Coimbatore district.

While addressing the media, Tamilaruvi said, “The party’s deputy chief, Dennis Kovil Pillai will contest from the North Coimbatore constituency. Thirumalai Rajan will contest from Goundampalayam, and Sargunam will contest from Singanallur constituencies. We are planning to contest in more constituencies in the 2021 elections if the people of Tamil Nadu support us in this election.”

He further added that all the opposition parties should unite against DMK and AIADMK.“Both the Dravidian parties have been ruling Tamil Nadu for the past fifty year and they have not developed the state much,” he claimed. “Stalin is touring the state now, but what was he doing all these days?” he asked.

Calling the United Nations Human Rights Council’s resolution against Sri Lanka a “disappointment,” he said, “The resolution says that a part of the investigation team would comprise of Sri Lankan officials. It is hard to believe that the Sri Lankan judges will be just in their report.”
