A 40-year-old man was injured on the leg, when an elephant attacked him near Postal Colony in the city today.
According to police, Murugesan had gone to cut wood in the bushy area on the outskirts this morning when an elephant suddenly appeared from behind and took him in its trunk and hurled down.
As he managed to raise alarm, passersby rushed to the spot, preventing the elephant from attacking him further.
Murugesan, with fractured leg, was admitted to the government hospital here.
