Elephant kills 60-year old man, injures two others

Coimbatore : A 60-year old man was killed and two others injured, when an elephant attacked them at Poondi reserve forest area, 30 kms from here on Sunday.

A group of people were on a pilgrimage on the Velliangiri, a hill shrine in the forest area, for the Tamil New Year when a lone tusker attacked them, police said.

The man, Aruchamy had along with some others had gone to draw water from a rivulet as part of pilgrimage,when the elephant suddenly chased them from the river side.

Though a few of them managed to escape, the animal trampled on Aruchamy killing him on the spot and injuring two others, they said.
