Engineering students held for chain snatching

Police arrested two engineering students in Thanjavur in connection with a chain snatching incident.

The victim, M Saranya, resident of Jothi Nagar in Thanjavur and working as assistant professor in a private engineering college near Thanjavur was returning home from college in her two wheeler on September 14, when the two in a motorbike snatched her chain weighing six sovereigns and sped away.

Based on her complaint, Thanjavur taluk police registered a case. During investigation, police identified the two as Nausat Ali (18) of Thirunagar in Ayyampetti and Mohamed Nasser (19) of Vazhuthur. Subsequently, police arrested the duo who were produced in the court yesterday and remanded to judicial custody.

Nausat Ali is pursuing his degree in a reputed engineering college in Thanjavur, while Mohamed Nasser is a student of an engineering college in Tiruchi.
