Chennai: The first meeting of AIADMK MLAs and MPs after merger on Monday decided to convene general council meet of the party that can take a final call on the ouster of VK Sasikala, now jailed in corruption case. The party also resolved to take control of the two mouth pieces – Namadhu MGR and Jaya TV – that are privately owned.

The Monday meeting was chaired by O Panneerselvam, deputy chief minister who is also the convenor of the 11-member AIADMK panel and chief minister Edapadi Palanisami who is the co-convenor of the panel.

Other than this, the party resolved that all appointments made by Jayalalithaa as general secretary stay and no removal or appointment of party office bearers done by sacked leader TTV Dinakaran would be valid.

Since Sasikala’s appointment itself was not acknowledged by the election commission, the appointment she made was not valid, said fisheries minister D Jayakumar. Which means that Dinakaran’s appointment was also invalid and all the decisions taken by him were null and void, the united AIADMK said.

A senior AIADMK leader told media persons that “certainly she will be ousted”. In one of the resolutions, the AIADMK said that Sasikala was appointed interim general secretary and was only a temporary arrangement.

The fact that EPS OPS combine stopped short of taking a call on Sasikala is an indication that the united AIADMK is nervous, said a political analyst.

According to the thinking of the EPS-OPS combine, the election commission would be approached for a decision on the Sasikala issue. According to party sources, EPS and OPS will be heading to Delhi along with a team to call on the commission and explore possibility of withdrawing affidavits naming Sasikala as their leader.

It remains to be seen if the commission entertains the submissions of the united AIADMK representatives.

Dinakaran camp, slowly gaining strength with its MLAs numbers rising to 23, launched a direct attack on the united AIADMK labelling its actions as invalid. In fact, Nanjil Sampath dared EPS to step into the office of Namadhu MGR and Jaya TV. “We will show him what it is,” Sampath thundered after the AIADMK resolved to take over these two media outlets.

Thanga Tamilselvan, Dinakaran supporter, said the AIADMK meeting itself was invalid as “these people do not have the power to call these meetings, only general secretary or deputy general secretary can. And both are with us.”

Another supporter, Thanga Tamilselvan said “they have carried out the meetings in secrecy. Why were we not invited,” he questioned and said such resolutions would not have been passed if they had attended the meeting.

Dinakaran in the meanwhile continued his ‘sacking spree’ and removed another minister from party post on Monday. Yesterday, Dinakaran removed Chief Minister Palaniswami as the party’s Salem suburban district secretary. Before that Dinakaran sacked several party officials including former minister S Gokula Indira, chief whip S Rajendran, Rajya Sabha member R Vaithialingam.

Dinakaran supporters are itching for a fight.
